Interpol has rejected Iran's request for Trump's arrest

Interpol on Monday sent CNBC a request from the Iranian government for assistance in issuing an arrest warrant for US President Donald Trump.

The Leon-based international organization said in an email statement, "Under Article 3 of Interpol's constitution, any interference or activity of a political, military, religious or ethnic nature is strictly prohibited."

"Therefore, if we have to send it to the General Secretariat, in accordance with our Constitution and regulations, Interpol will not consider requests of this nature."

Iran issued an arrest warrant for Trump in January over the assassination of its top commander, General Qasim Solaimani. Tehran's Attorney General Ali Alghsi-Mehr has been quoted in local newspapers as saying that Iran and Iran are involved in Sohmani's death and that Trump and 35 have been named as "accused of murder and terrorism." “For him - the highest level notice agency can issue to anyone for his arrest.

Red notices allow local law enforcement authorities to arrest individuals on behalf of the country they request, although they do not force the governments of countries to arrest or extradite suspects. However, they cause diplomatic problems and limit travel and suspects' free movement.

Brian Hook, US Special Envoy for Iran, declared Iran "a propaganda stunt that no one takes seriously", describing it as "political" and "has nothing to do with national security."

Soliman led Iran's paramilitary force, the foreign operations unit of the Elite Paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Trump administration called him a terrorist, and Washington was considered responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American soldiers in Iraq - but in Iran, he is widely respected as a hero.

The 62-year-old Solimani was killed in a drone-directed drone strike in early January in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The news of his death provoked regional tensions and oil prices, and US forces confronted Iran and its pro-Iraq ambitions.
