Iran IMF to Buck US Appeals, to which it owes $ 5 billion

Iran, which is rebounding on coronavirus cases, has appealed to the US Monetary Fund to provide $ 5 billion in loans to the country in defiance of US resistance.

President Hassan Rouhani said the US was still blocking the Iranian loan application.

“We hope that the IMF board will not be under US pressure and will comply with its commitments to all countries,” Rouhani said in a statement on State TV.

On Sunday, Iran reported the highest daily death from the virus since April 13, when the country first eased measures for lockdown and reopened its economy. So far, 187,427 people have been infected and 8,837 have died, according to the Ministry of Health.
