Popular Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput (34 age) has died

Mumbai, India (AP) - Popular Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on Sunday, police and Indian media said.

Preliminary reports say the 34-year-old actor was found hanging in his apartment in suburban Bandra.

Mumbai police spokesman Pranay Ashok confirmed the death and said an investigation is underway.

Rajput, who debuted as a TV actor, made his debut in Bollywood in 2013 with director Abhishek Kapoor's "Kai Po Che" based on Chetan Bhagat's book.

The actor has been mourning the news on social media, with many reacting in disbelief to the news.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Sushant Singh Rajput ... a bright young actor is gone soon". "He excelled on TV and in films. His rise in the entertainment world inspired many people and he left behind unforgettable performances. He was shocked by his death. My thoughts are with his family and fans.

"Honestly this news shocked me," Bollywood star Akshay Kumar wrote on Twitter.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui tweeted "I can't believe it at all. It's shocking ... a beautiful actor and a good friend ... it's disappointing."

Rajput 2016 Indian film team Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's 2016 film "M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story" has been released. His other films are "Kedarnath, Sonchiraya" (Golden Bird) and "Rabta" (Connection).

He was last seen in the 2019 Netflix movie "Drive".
