Ryan Fox tore the course as he made pro golf returns in New Zealand

WELLINGTON  Ryan Fox has had a long COVID-19 shutdown that did not affect his game with a 13-stroke victory over the Wiraki Invitational after returning to professional golf New Zealand over the weekend.

The world No. 131, a regular on the suspended European tour, scored 63, 66, and 63 in his three rounds, completing a 24-under-par for the Pro-A tournament.

Fox, who won his first European Tour title at the World Super 6 in Perth last year, matched just 22 birdies and three eagles at the Wairakei International Golf Course.

In New Zealand, professional golf has been suspended for more than two months due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last week the country lifted all social and economic restrictions except for border controls after it was declared free from coronaviruses.

The European Tour will resume on July 22 with the British Masters.
