Smart Lockdown is the only option: PM Imran

ISLAMABAD: With the rapid spread of the coronavirus novel in the country, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Thursday that he already knows that the number of Kovid-19 cases and deaths will increase over time, but the only alternative for Pakistan is a smart lockdown.

In the last 24 hours, the country has reported 6,321 cases of Covid-19, 92 deaths, 123,493 cases of national cases, and 2,409 deaths.

Addressing the nation, the Prime Minister said that the government was strictly monitoring the people to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs) so that the government could act harshly on violators. He warned of shutting down all such premises where the deadly virus could spread. He said the number of Covid-19 cases would increase if people did not take precautions.

PM Khan accused the opposition of wanting more viruses to criticize the government and hence the opposition leaders came from London.

“I would like to tell you that we are not under pressure and cannot implement the lockdown imposed in some other countries, including India. Experts from the University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago, etc. published a survey. It also shows that many people lost their jobs, but the oligarch did not suffer because of Kovid-19, ”he said.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan was left out due to the opening of the economy and the distribution of cash among the poor. "I would like to inform you that the death toll in Pakistan is going to increase in the coming days, but in India, patients are not getting beds in hospitals and now [India] has come to a decision that is a lockdown," he added.
