Manchester United star Nemanja Matic believes the Red Devils can win the Premier League, warning that there is no excuse for 2020-21.
United enjoyed an unbeaten 14-match series
in the Premier League last season behind champions Liverpool and Manchester
City.
Oli Gunnar Sol skier’s United, who reached
the semi-finals of the Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup in 2019-20, also
qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2017-18.
United have scored 33 points against
rivals Liverpool, but veteran midfielder Matic is happy to join the club's new
campaign.
"There's no excuse from next
season," Matric told the UTD podcast. "We have to go with everything.
We have to fight for the title because I think we have given up some points
this year.
"We allowed Liverpool to win [the
title], I don't know, 10 games before the end of the season. They won the
league, so we can't allow that. We need to fight to the end. Play with more
responsibility and confidence.
"My personal goal is to win the
league with United and I'm sure everyone wants to do the same. We have to
promise our supporters that we will do our best - exactly what we did [Coronavirus Lockdown] What's up now? It's Manchester United.
"We have to win five, six games in a
row, then you can drop a few points, then you have to run it. That's how we can
win the league. We weren't stable at the start of the season, we won. One or
two. Then we lost the game and were attracted to us.
"Proper United is what we did after
[the lockdown] and I hope we can continue like next season."
