Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday authorized the country's provinces to lock-in where needed to stem the rapid rise in coronavirus cases.
"We have to step up regulation and
oversight," Rouhani said in a televised remark.
He said government-run Corona Virus Task
Force offices across the country would make recommendations on enforcing
sanctions and a one-week lockdown.
According to the Ministry of Health, the
number of deaths due to coronavirus in Iran on Thursday has exceeded 25,000 and
the total number of cases identified is 439,882.
Iranian health officials have warned of an
increase in infections, and called on the country to respect health protocols
to control the spread of the disease.
