Explained: yo test, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Virat Kohli recently discussed this.

"I have heard these days that there is a U-U test for the team. What is this test?" Modi was asked’ during a virtual conversation on the occasion of the anniversary of the Fit India Movement. Modi also asked whether Kohli had to pass the test or whether he had been’ pardoned.

Kohli replied: "I am the first to run away and the condition is that if I fail I am not available for selection either. It is important to establish this culture and improve the overall level of fitness. Will

So what has Modi and Kohli done during the interaction?

Danish football physicist Jens Bangsbo developed the test. The two cones are placed’ at a distance of 20 meters, and the athlete has to run between them when the beep goes off. After a minute the beeps become more frequent, and if the athlete does not reach the line at that time, he is expected to get stuck’ in two more beeps. If the player fails to catch before the end of the beep, the test is’ stopped.

The test has a preliminary and advanced level, and players are given’ scores. In India, the minimum score set by the Board of Control for Cricket for passing a test is 16.1.

Does the choice of players depend on this test?

Two years ago, players were dropped’ from Indian teams for failing a U-Test. In fact, Sanju Samson - one of the heroes of the first week of the ongoing Indian Premier League - was dropped’ from the India A squad in 2018 for failing to score.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Mohammad Shami was also dropped’ from the squad for the ODI against Afghanistan after failing the U-Test.

Is this a foolproof system?

No, there are some limitations. An athlete's workload can also affect results. Therefore, after a heavy season, the one who is experienced’ can struggle while the one who is fresh can easily pass. For example, when Samson failed the test, his senior teammate Ashish Nehra successfully completed the test.

Also, U-U tests are good for general movement analysis. Different athletes respond differently depending on their metabolism and lung capacity. However, cricket needs skill coordination, footwork, physical balance, upper and lower physical strength, anxiety, how you maintain balance as a head, and so on. Where a player stands.

How is it used’ in other sports?

Hockey and football have high scores. But this is not the only criterion of choice. The test is just an indication of a player's fitness level. In some tournaments, such as the NBA, teams do not use this routine for selection.
