Russia will send Belarus to joint military exercises starting Monday with its PSU division of the paratroopers; the RIA Novato news agency quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying on Sunday.
The exercises come amid tensions in Belarus as President
Alexander Lukashenko faces public outrage over last month's election, which
opponents say was rigged. The protest has tested the loyalty of its security
forces.
The Defense Ministry said that the joint military exercises of
the "Slack Brotherhood" have been going on since September 14-25.
