JERUSALEM  Hundreds of Israelis protested against Benjamin Netanyahu outside his Jerusalem residence Saturday evening as Israeli Prime Minister faces corruption charges.

Seven protesters who held a small rally against Netanyahu's continuation despite being vulgar were detained Friday. Protesters placed banners calling Netanyahu a "prime minister."

One of the seven prisoners is a former Israeli Air Force. On Saturday, Israeli police said the protests were "illegal" a day before protesters blocked roads.

Three protesters, including retired brigadiers. Israeli media reports that General Amir Haskel is in custody after police refused to release him and insisted on Saturday's protest.

Last month, Netanyahu's trial on fraud charges opened in Jerusalem court for breach of trust and for taking bribes. It is set to reopen next month.

Netanyahu's new government took office last month, more than a year after the political deadlock.

Under the power-sharing agreement, Netanyahu was allowed to remain, prime minister, while his rival Benny Gantz was elected defense minister and alternate prime minister.

Both agreed to change positions 18 months later, though most analysts do not expect the government to last much longer.
