La Liga threatens detention for players who violate health guidelines

Barcelona-based Nelson Semedo is reported to be in good health, but Spain's president La Liga has said that players will have to go into custody as the season begins again following a coronavirus-induced suspension. The protocol was violated.

The Portuguese defender Semedo "has not been trained according to the protocol set by La Liga," Barcelona said on Thursday.

Following the news in the Spanish media that more than 20 people gathered at the Castell Capital, a beach resort just outside the Catalan capital, it was contrary to the country's stringent regulations on its way out of the lockdown.

The four players from Sevilla were recently photographed attending a barbecue, and events have raised concerns over whether teams should go into custody between matches to reduce the new risk of coronavirus infection.

"I know he has been fired from training at least on all occasions, and I know that he has also taken disciplinary action in some clubs," La Liga president Javier Tebas told the international media on Thursday.

“But if this continues we are going to have to do something that we are not going to do, which applies to mandatory detention.

"Hopefully, we don't have to do that, but if players continue to barbecue and party, we should consider introducing restrictive policies."

Sevilla and Betis will face the first La Liga match on Thursday after being suspended in mid-March. Barcelona return to action against Mallorca on Saturday after a two-point victory over Real Madrid.

Spain is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world at the time of the epidemic, with more than 27,000 deaths.

La Liga guidelines for matches only allow 270 people inside the venues.

All players are tested for viruses before the game and their temperature is checked before entering the stadium wearing masks and gloves.

"It's a very important day. We're in front of fans all over the world again. But I'm very satisfied when the competition is over," said Tebas, whose La Liga is set to begin next September. For. 12.

Meanwhile, the summer transfer window in Spain runs from late July to early October.

"I believe there will be a consensus in the big leagues, at least a few weeks before the start of the group stage of the Champions League in October this year, and the end of domestic competitions will open after the end of July," he said.
