Three killed and hundreds killed in Ukraine

Kiwi Three people were killed and hundreds of people were evacuated from their homes and destroyed villages as a result of heavy rains in Ukraine, officials said Wednesday.

While many are trying to protect their property, about 800 people have been evacuated since the onset of the rains on Monday, with Interior Minister Arsene Awakov visiting Prime Minister Dennis Shimgal in the disaster area.

According to the emergency service, as of Wednesday morning, about 5,000 homes in 187 villages had been submerged.

Footage from regional administration and social media showed mountain rivers, a partially submerged village and water-covered fields and roads.

The Interior Ministry has called four helicopters, an airplane, and about 150 soldiers into the area, known as the most powerful flood in many years.
