Jean Cortex, who coordinated the country's strategy of reopening the virus, was named by French President Emmanuel Macron, who resigned on Friday.

The new Prime Minister is a career public servant who has worked with many governments. Alternatively, Mr. Macron is redesigning the government to focus on reintroducing the French economy after months of lockdown due to coronary virus.

Mr. Costeux, 55, served two years as the second-highest-ranking officer in the Icy Palace under Nicolas Sarkozy's presidency.

He was described as a senior civil servant on French politics mid-right, and his experience in local politics helps Mr. Macron to join regional France.

The reorganization in France sees the Prime Minister resign before his ministerial appointments, but he can be nominated for the post.

Macron's move to restore his central government after voters punished him and his party in municipal elections across the country, revealing an increase in support for the Green Party.

According to local reports of the French president, Mr. Hewade's own victory in the northern seaport city of Le Havre was described as "a rare bright spot" because his party had a poor showing.

It is a political gamble for Mr. Macron to replace the more popular Prime Minister. Political analysts say Mr. Philip has shown continued loyalty during the wave of unrest and may emerge as a presidential rival in 2022.

It was an issue for Mr. Macron when Mr. Phillip was in office, as his youth party indicated that there was no depth for full cabinet integrity.

Prior to Mr. Philip's resignation, in an interview with several local newspapers, Macron praised the "outstanding work" of the former prime minister over the past three years.

He said he was looking for "a new way" to rebuild France for the remaining two years of his tenure.

"It's hard to come back from summer vacation. We have to be ready," regional newspapers said.

Philip, in his election campaign in Le Havre, said: "If he thinks the President will be more useful to the Prime Minister than another, I respect his choice with full devotion."
