Slovakian drug drop produces a large batch of methamphetamine

Slovakia seized 1.5 billion methamphetamines worth 2 2 billion ($ 2.26 billion) for smuggling into the country, officials reported on Thursday.

The acquisition was described by Slovak authorities as the largest in the country.

Officials said the drugs were discovered in late May with the help of a service dog hutch hired by the country's financial administration, after which customs officials suspected the contents of two large metal containers for transporting liquids.

The shipment reached Slovakia via the Croatian port and is believed to be sold throughout the European Union.

Inspectors drilled holes in the bottom of the tanks and found large amounts of white crystalline material, which was later found to be methamphetamine.

Slovakia's National Criminal Agency is investigating the case.
