Duchess Meghan will not return to act as part of her and her husband Prince Harry's Netflix deal.
The former 'suit' actress gave up her
career after joining the British royal family when the couple tied the knot in
May 2018.
And when he signed a multi-year deal with
the streaming service, many speculated that it could be a sign that Meghan, 39,
is ready to return to acting.
However, Netflix co-CEO Red Hastings has
insisted that this is not the case and that his deal is about becoming a
"producer".
He told CNBC: "The real focus for
them is to be producers and increase that production capacity. The most
important thing is that they have developed a great vision for the story, and
we will work with them on that basis. "
Reed teased that Meghan and Harry, 35,
have "extensive entertainment" in their works.
And he called it the "most
interesting, most viewed content" of 2021.
He added: "They are smart.
"They were all shopping at big
companies and I think we're really developing a great, complete package. We're
having a lot of fun with them ... I think it's The most interesting thing will
be the most viewed content next year. "
Announcing the Netflix deal in a
statement, Meghan and Harry said: "Our lives, both are independent of each
other, and as a couple we are allowed to understand the power of the human
soul. The need for flexibility and relationships.
"By working with diverse communities
and their environments to shed light on people and causes around the world, our
focus will be on creating something that creates awareness and also gives
hope." As such, it is important for us to create an inspiring family
program, as well as a powerful story through a true and relevant lens.
"We are thrilled to work with Ted Sarandon,
Netflix's co-CEO and chief content officer] and the Netflix team whose
unparalleled reach helps us share impactful content." That makes the
process unethical. "
The pair - who together have a
16-month-old son, Archie - will focus on creating programming that resonates
with them, including issues that focus on their nonprofit base, Archewell.
