Before the first match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the Dubai Cricket Stadium, Ishant Sharma, the fast captain of the Delhi Capitals, suffered from back pain. Now he is ready to leave another match.
The administration does not want to bring
it back as the 13th edition of the league has just started.
Speaking to ANI, a member of the Delhi
Capitals team management said that although it was a tragic incident, the unit
did not want to rush into it, given the long weather and weather conditions.
"Ideally he will need a little time
and he may miss one or two games. We will not endanger Ishant and we will not
put him in the XI early in the season. The game has just started and that one the
key is going to be in the middle and business, he said, the end of the
tournament.
Asked if the injury was due to workload
after the COVID-19 break, he said spasms could occur at any time and could
affect batsmen in the nets.
"No, it has nothing to do with
returning to training after a break due to an epidemic. It's not like he was
training regularly during the break. Besides, the players get injured’ all the
time. "Even a batsman can fall prey to bricks," he said, adding that
it was immediately assessed’ by a physio and necessary steps were taken.
Delhi's next match against runners-up
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) next year will be at the Dubai Cricket Stadium on
Friday. In their third game, they will play Sun Riser Hyderabad (SRH) on
September 29 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
In his first game, Kagiso Rabada bowled
brilliantly in the super over to take the Delhi Capitals home after the match
ended in a tie against XIP.
When Rabada was superb on the ball,
questions were raised’ about the quality of umpiring when Nathan Menon cut a
run from KXIP's score in the 19th over because he thought the batsman was going
to the crease for the second run. The bat was not dropped’ inside. The team
management took up the matter with match referee Jivagal Srinath as he felt
that he had lost the game with one run.
Co-owners Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta have
both called for improving the quality of umpiring, as the IPL is a major the domestic tournament in world cricket.
