KL Rahul, the newly appointed captain of Kings XI Punjab has now become the fastest Indian to score IPL runs in 2000. Rahul played only 60 innings to achieve this feat and thus surpassed the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar who set the record with an innings of 63 runs.
Rahul
achieved this feat while playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Dubai.
His teammate Chris Gayle achieved the feat in just 43 innings, making him the fastest cricketer to reach the 2K target.
KL Rahul is in a purple patch before the
Covid-19 ended the game in March.
His rise ensured that he would be named’
the captain of Kings XI Punjab, with Anil
Kumble as
his coach. Former India captain Sunil
Gavaskar felt
that Rahul should be named’ India's captain. "It's a great opportunity for
KL Rahul to show that he can do it. Make runs when given the responsibility.
Secondly, he can show that he is capable of captaining a team and how can he
shape his team and put in the effort. If he performs well, he can also become
the vice-captain of the Indian team,” Gavaskar said on Sports Talk.
"The Indian team still has players
like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane. But going forward, he could
be an option of the selection committee and he could also be the future captain
of India. So, it could be a big tournament for KL Rahul as captain,” added
Little Master.
Former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra
supported Little Master's opinion. "I hope his (Rahul's) captaincy will be
good. In fact, we will have an idea of his captaincy, how he runs the game,
what strategy he uses. If we look at Kohli and Rohit, they are the same age
group and at one point you may feel that they are no longer the captain's
material,” Chopra shared a video on his Facebook page. I said while answering
the questions of the fans.
