The National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday issued a call-up notice to Fazlur Rehman, head of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), alleging that his team would be investigated next month.
He has been directed’ to appear before the court. Be above
corruption and assets.
The notice issued under section 19 of the
National Accountability Ordinance 1999 was sent’ to Rehman's residence in Dera
Ismail Khel.
The article in the notice, viewed by
Dawn.com, states that the inquiry is against former MNA Rehman and others
"on corruption and methods of corruption/collection of assets".
He said an investigation into the matter
had revealed that Rehman "had information/evidence related to the [[]]
crime commission."
The notice called on the JUI-F chief to
appear before the CIT (Joint Investigation Team) at the NAB Regional Office on
October 1 at 11 am to "file his statement / application in the
investigation of the article". Do ".
Summons said failure to comply with the
notice could lead to penalties as per the NAO 1999 schedule.
According to a letter sent to an
additional director of NAB KP by the caretaker headquarters of accountability,
Islamabad, NAB chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal had on September 14 approved
"permission for inquiry" against Rehman and others. ۔ On September
18, NAB was also sent’ to KP for necessary action.
The development comes two days after
Fazal's JUI-F held a multi-party conference with other major opposition parties
to discuss an "action plan" with people across the country starting
next month. Announced a three-phase anti-government movement. Meetings,
protests and rallies in December and a "decisive long march" towards
Islamabad in January 2021.
The opposition routinely accuses the
government of using the NAB to victimize opposition members in the name of
accountability. The government denies the allegations, saying the caretaker is
independent and its chairman was appointed by the opposition PML-N and the PPP
itself.
Last month, the NAB KP office issued a similar
notice to Rehman's younger brother, a provincial government official, who was
involved in an investigation into several allegations, including possession of
illegal assets. Instructed to appear before IT.
