Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday accused the United States of "horror" after Washington imposed new sanctions on Tehran, saying Iranians should vent their anger at the White House.

"The Americans have cost Iran tens of millions of dollars," Rouhani said in a televised remark. "We don't have that much horror ... the White House knows the curse and hatred of the Iranian people."

Tensions between Washington and Tehran have risen since US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal reached by his predecessor in 2018 and renewed sanctions under the agreement. The ban had begun.
