Protests erupted in the Supreme Court on Thursday between President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
The crowd chanted, "Vote for
him" and "Respect his wishes". This is a clear reference to what
she told her granddaughter that her ultimate wish was to fill her seat for the
next president - during Trump's appearance, which was broadcast’ live on the
television network. The president and first lady stepped out of the front door
of the courthouse and spent several moments in silence at Ginsberg's coffin,
which was wrapped’ in the American flag. As soon as the protest slogans were
raised’ the couple went back to court.
The president wore a blue facemask with a
presidential seal. Other senior White House officials also observed the coffin
after Trump, including White House Attorney Pete Pat Cipollone and National
Security Adviser Robert O'Brien.

In Washington, two months before the
November election, Trump's cold receipt comes amid a fierce battle over his
plans to nominate Ginsberg's replacement to the Supreme Court. Trump is
expected’ to announce his nominee at a White House ceremony Saturday evening,
which he said will be a woman, and to confirm his choice before election day.

Republicans have indicated they intend to
move quickly to confirm Trump's nominee. Democrats have strongly objected,
saying that whoever is elected’ in the November 3 election should choose the
person to fill the vacancy.
Trump reacted strongly to Ginsberg's death
last Friday, calling him an "amazing woman" who lived an amazing
life. He ordered flags at the White House to be identified’ by half the staff
and said he would postpone his nominee until after his funeral prayers.
Ginsberg's coffin will be unveiled at the
end of the day on the steps of the Supreme Court on Thursday and will remain
lying in the state in the US capital on Friday. Other political leaders have
visited the Supreme Court in their honor, including Vice President Mike Pence
and other women, Karen Pence and Bill and Hillary Clinton.
