Two people were confirmed’ dead and seven were injured’ when three trucks, a fuel tanker and a commercial bus collided in the Anthony area of Lagos State on Tuesday.
Punch Metro learned that the accident,
which took place around 9.30am on Tuesday, involved two tipper trucks with
number plates AKM 741 ZT and AKM 322 ZT, a fuel tanker with number plate U 779
XZ. , Container truck with unknown number plate and commercial bus with number
plate KTU 198 XN.
Our correspondent reported that the
accident, which was caused’ by reckless driving, resulted in the death of two
female passengers on the bus.
Emergency responders at the scene were
identified’ as Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Ambulance
Service, LRU Ambulance, Nigerian Police, Lagos State Fire Service, LRU Fire
Unit and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
Confirming the crash, the public relations
officer, LASEMA, Nosa O'Connor, said: "As soon as the accident was
reported, it was discovered that more than one accident involved two tipper
trucks, with number plates AKM 741 ZT and AKM 322 ZT. A tanker loaded with a
fuel-number plate U-779 XZ, and a 40-foot containerized truck with an unknown
number plate resulted in a reckless driving crushing a commercial bus with
number plate KTU 198 XN. The occupants have been, trapped and obstructed by
vehicles’ on the main carriageway.
However, the bus was opened’ with the help
of the agency's light rescue equipment, six people and one child were rescued
with injuries of varying degrees, and the agency's paramedics had earlier
