Los Angeles, (AP) The Southern California All-American offensive lineman Max Tuerk has died. He was 26 years old.
The Tutor family said he died Saturday while walking with his parents in the Cleveland National Forest, north of San Diego. No explanation was given.
"Max loves his teammates, coaches, and schools," the family said in a statement. "" Max is a loving son and older brother and his passing leaves a big hole in our hearts. ''
Tuerk played for the Trojans from 2012–15. He was a Freshman All-American in 2014 and an All-Pac-12 first-team selection. As a three-year starter, he played with three head coaches: Len Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian, and Klay Helton.
"Max is suffering from the loss of Tuerk," Helton tweeted. "Incredible person, companion, and Trojan." Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. ''
The Chargers selected Turk in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, but a knee injury in his senior year affected his progress. Despite being listed by the Chargers, he has been inactive throughout the season.
Prior to his second season, Tuerk was suspended for four games for violating league policy on performance-enhancing substances. He said he tested positive after taking an over-the-counter supplement.
After the Chargers were released, he was signed by the Arizona Cardinals in 2017 and played one game before being cut in 2018.
Tuber hails from Trabuco Canyon, California, where he played football at Santa Margarita Catholic High, where he won the state title in 2011.
