Australia will close its border after the outbreak of Victoria coronavirus

Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews said Monday that the border between Australia's two most populous states will be closed indefinitely from Tuesday, with the coronavirus spreading in her state.

Victoria reported 127 new COVID-19 infections overnight, the largest since the epidemic began. It also reported one death, bringing the total to 105.

The closure of the border between Victoria and neighboring New South Wales states will take effect at 11.59 am. Tuesday was local time, Andrews said.

Cases of coronavirus have been on the rise for the past few days in Victoria's capital Melbourne, with authorities demanding the implementation of stringent social-distillation orders in 30 suburbs and nine public housing towers in full lockdown.
