US President Donald Trump has long publicly protested the cover-up, saying he was "a secret to everyone" and that they would make him look like a Lone Ranger.
Trump said covering the face was not necessary to prevent the spread of Kovid-19.
He cited again that the infection would "disappear" as the US set a new record of 52,000 virus cases per day.
His comments to Fox News came a day after a Republican Party member asked Mr. Trump to wear a mask.
According to Johns Hopkins University, about 2.7 million cases of Covid-19 infections in the United States and more than 128,000 deaths have been confirmed, identifying the epidemic.
What did the president say?
Speaking to Fox Business Network on Wednesday, Trump said: "I'm for the masks."
Asked if she would wear one, the president said: "If I'm in a tight situation with people, I won't be." He said people have seen him wear one before.
He had no problem wearing masks in public, and compared himself to a Native American friend, the fictional masked hero Lone Ranger, who "looked like" himself. The Americans fought in the Old West.
But the president reaffirmed that he does not think it is necessary to cover the face of America because there are "so many places in the country where people live too far."
"If people feel good about it they should do it."
Mr. Trump, in his Fox Business interview on Wednesday, asked if he believed Coronavirus would someday "disappear."
"I do," he said. "I do. Yeah sure. At some point."
At Trump's upcoming Independence Day celebration in Mount Rushmore on July 3, his supporters will not be forced to wear veils or alienate themselves socially.
What did Trump say earlier about the mask?
When the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) began recommending people to wear masks or clothes in April to help prevent the spread of the virus, Trump told reporters he would not adopt the method.
"I don't think I'm going to do this," he said again. "I wear a face mask that greets the president, prime ministers, dictators, kings and queens - I haven't seen it."
But Mr. Trump has repeatedly stressed that it is a personal decision to follow official health guidelines around the masks.
Last month, he told the Wall Street Journal that some people only wear masks as a political statement against him.
In May, during a factory visit in Michigan, he told reporters that he stopped covering his face in front of the cameras because "he didn't want to enjoy watching the press."
The White House upheld the president's choice, saying that everyone associated with him would be tested repeatedly for coronaviruses, and so is Mr. Trump.
The president's daughter and senior adviser Ivanka Trump were also seen wearing masks in public.
In an ABC News / Ipsos poll last week, 89% of Americans said they wore a mask or face outside their home in the last week - a 20-point jump from mid-April.
