Pakistan PI suspended in Europe over fake pilot license scam

Pakistan International Airlines has been suspended from the European Union for six months, officials said on Tuesday.

Abdullah Khan, the PIA spokesman for the European Union's Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), told AFP that all other pilots were "still unsure" if they were eligible and "they have lost their trust".

In a statement, Isa said in a statement that a recent investigation in Pakistan's parliament revealed that most of the pilot's licenses issued in Pakistan were invalidated. Is ".

As a result of the coronavirus, the PIA flew limited international flights for only a few months.

The pilot accident left 98 people dead after domestic operations resumed last month.

PIA recently resumed bookings for five European capital cities, including Paris, Milan and Barcelona.

Khan said flights to Britain that were not in the European Union were not affected.

The EU suspension was the latest result for the PIA, as the aviation minister told parliament last week that 262 of Pakistan's 860 active pilots had been defrauded by government review of fake licenses or tests.

More than half of them belong to the PIA, the airline said, adding that 141 of its 434 pilots will soon land.

EASA said it suspended the PIA as it was concerned about the ability of competent authorities to ensure that Pakistani air operators comply with applicable international standards at all times.

Prime Minister Imran Khan told Parliament that the PIA and other government agencies would be reformed.

"I want to tell my country: we have no other way. Reforms are inevitable," he said.

The amendments to the PI reconstruction are expected to be completed by the end of this year, aviation minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan said.

On May 22, a PII plane crashed into homes in Karachi, killing all 97 people aboard and one child on the ground.

Researchers blamed two pilots talking about coronaviruses when they tried to land an Airbus A320 without getting off the wheels.
