The victims of the FBI Progressive Twitter hack include Musk and Obama

The FBI on Wednesday launched an investigation into a hacking attack on Twitter that affected some of the world's top accounts, including former President Barack Obama and Tesla Inc. chief executive Elon Musk.

During this time, the accounts were compromised to end cryptocurrency fraud, leading to an investigation, according to a statement from the FBI's San Francisco office. "We advise people not to fall prey to this scandal by sending cryptocurrencies or money related to this incident."

This statement is important because the FBI usually opens investigations in response to national security threats or attacks by foreign adversaries.

Among the bitcoins, hackers used hijacked accounts to obtain 000 120,000. Twitter said it was investigating the attack and was taking steps to correct what went wrong.

The company spent many hours blocking posts from all verified accounts of the service, as it sought to gain control over the hack. It later stated that it "discovered the coordinated social engineering attack of individuals who successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and equipment."
