US President-elect Joe Biden on Saturday vowed to unite Americans and restore divisions, calling them a "convincing" victory over Donald Trump.
"It's
time for healing in the United States," Biden told supporters at an outdoor
rally in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.
"I
pledge to be a president who wants to unite, not divide," Biden said,
reflecting Trump's nearly four polarizing years, a controversial one.
Acknowledging
the frustration of Trump supporters, Biden said of them: "They are not our
enemies. They are Americans."
"This is the age of evil in America," Biden said.
"I
seek this office to restore the spirit of the United States, to rebuild this
nation, to the backbone of the middle class, and to make America once again
respected throughout the world," Biden said.
Vice
President Barack Obama paid special tribute to the African-American community,
pointing to his role in selecting the Democratic nominee to challenge Trump.
Biden
was quite encouraging when he addressed a crowd at a social distance after the
introduction of Kamala Harris, vice-president-elect, to Bruce Springston's
"We take care of ourselves."
"People,
the people of this nation have spoken. They have given us a clear victory, a
convincing victory," Biden said.
