ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's President Arif Ali on Monday tested positive for covid-19 after receiving his first dose of an unknown vaccine, just a week after a similar announcement by the prime minister.
Immediately on Monday. Later, Defense Minister Pervez Khattak also said that he had a positive experience. "We all need to take this third wave very seriously. May Allah protect us all," Khattak added in his message.
Coronavirus cases are on the rise in South Asian countries. In the last 24 hours, it recorded 4,525 infections and 41 deaths, with 659,116 infections and more than 14,250 deaths.
The government is in the process of introducing strict restrictions, including banning wedding ceremonies and large gatherings.
It launched its vaccine drive earlier this month, vaccinating health workers and high-risk age groups. But it is facing reluctance to vaccinate and delays in getting the vaccine to the country.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Imran Khan had a positive experience two days after taking his first dose. Officials said he had an infection before he was shot.
Pictures released by the government on March 15 showed the president receiving a vaccine, but did not name the brand.
