ISLAMABAD, April 16 (Reuters) - Pakistan on Friday blocked several social media apps on security grounds amid a crackdown on a violent Islamist group.
"Access to certain social media applications has been temporarily restricted to maintain public order and safety," a senior Telecommunications Authority official told Reuters.
Since Friday morning, Pakistani internet users have been having difficulty accessing apps including WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
Pakistan had said this week that it would ban the Islamic group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TGLP) and the arrest of its leader this week sparked major protests across the country.
