Ivanka Trump has been accused’ of violating ethics eight times in two days on Twitter by an American watchdog.
In
Washington (CRW), Citizens' Responsibility and Ethics claims that Ms. Trump, a
senior adviser to the president has repeatedly violated the Hatch Act.
The
Watchdog criticized Ms. Trump in eight tweets from October 11 to October 13 in
which she promoted her father's re-election campaign.
The
White House and the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for
comment from The Independent.
The
Hatch Act, passed in 1939, seeks to restrict certain political activities of
federal employees. Ensures that "federal employees are promoted on the
basis of merit and not on the basis of political affiliation".
It
also prevents employees from being coerced’ or pressured to participate in
political activities and ensures that federal programs are conducted in a
non-partisan manner.
Violations
can be as small as tweets sent from a government account and can result in
dismissal, or fines.
Several
members of Mr. Trump's administration have been accused of violating the law on
several occasions in the past, including former White House counselor Kellyanne
Conway.
The
U.S. Office of the Special Adviser recommended in 2019 that Ms. Conway be fired
"on several occasions" for violating the Code of Ethics.
However,
since the President usually enforces violations of the Hatch Act, no member of
the administration has suffered the consequences of the alleged violations.
