A businessman in the Indian state of Pune has committed $ 4,000 dollars to make a bespoke gold face mask to protect himself from coronavirus.
Shankar Kurhade, a businessman from the western city of Pune, said the precious metal weighs 60 grams (two ounces) and takes eight days to manufacture.
"It has a thin mask and small holes that help me to breathe," Shankar told AFP.
"I don't know if this is effective in protecting me from coronavirus infection but I'm taking other precautions," he said.
On the way out, the 49-year-old said he liked to decorate every finger of his right hand with a bracelet, necklace, and rings weighing a kilogram.
Kurhade - whose company builds industrial sheds - said he had come up with the idea for a golden face mask, and saw a media report about a man-made of silver.
"People are asking me to selfie," he said.
"I was shocked to see them wearing a gold mask in the markets."
